Watts Riot, 1965

The Watts riots took place in Watts neighborhood, located in LA. It began with an African American man drunk driving on August 11, 1965 with his brother, and they both got arrested. Marquette Frye's arrest led to six other riots.

Marquette Frye, and his family were arrested for drunk driving and assulting police officers in the Watts neighborhood of LA. The mother of the Frye's brothers was arrested when shesaw her son, Marquette, being forcibly arrested and ripped the shirt of one of the officers. This arrest started protests in the African American community.

The riots' rumors became a racial protest. The African American community broke out in violence because of the roughness of the cops during these times. Their goals were to try to fight for not being looked as lower than the white community and to get people to hear them.

It accomplished the goals of being heard, but didn't make King happy because of the riots, he thought riots never accomplish anything. It's important because it shows one of the many racial conflicts throughout America during that time, and it made an anit-poverty program in Los Angeles.
